Did Thursday's WOD today -

8 rounds even at 185

Feeling pretty good about that, cleans felt lighter than I thought. Lungs were the limiting factor still but definitely on the way back.

did Thursday's WOD this morning w/ 10 doubles and 123# cleans. 4 rds + doubles + 1 clean. Cleans were properly heavy, but I'm always slowed down by doubles.

Just drove in to the park where tomorrows Spartan race is and it looks tottally bad ass. Pretty cool, sucks that it is gonna rain, that park gets super flooded when it rains too so it will be extra muddy.

Wow. Those are some SPECTACULAR team photos. Los Angeles has been amazing, but I'm so bummed we missed SBK FGB. I love a group costume! Nice work everyone!

Hey, just saw on F'ed in Park Slope about the giant fire on 4th Ave near the gym. Everyone/thing ok around there?

September 23, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRobin

Robin, looks like it's contained to the auto parts place on 4th Ave. There are a million fire trucks and lots of activity, but at least right now it looks like it's under control.

I'm glad CFSBK is alright.

::MEAT UPDATE::

That pork shoulder is absurd. Ahbbbsurrdd.

This is what I did with mine.
Pasture boneless roasted pork shoulder. Studded w/ 4 large cloves of garlic,
dry rub (applied 12 hours before cooking): 5 tsp cumin, 5 tsp spanish paprika, 4-5 tbsp salt, 3 tsp cayenne pepper.
set on bed of one sliced yellow onion and roasted at 250 for 8 hours in a cast iron dutch oven.

I recommend it highly.

thank you again, Margie, for setting up the CSA.

It's a little smoky in here, be forewarned.

These photos are freaking hilarious: gun shows, Usain Bolt wannabes, spoonfests, bicep-kissers, ass-displayers, we got 'em all.

@Joe- Bizness. I am doing clinic visits across the country for a research study and Fremont is one of our sites. The weather here is awesome and everything is super cheap. I kind of like it. But the gym is no SBK, not even close, so I will be coming home soon. Today's work consisted of:

Warm up: 2 RNFT: (supposed to be 3 but he basically gave us 5 mins to get it done)
-250m row
-another variation on samson stretch with PVC pipe
-10 push ups
-12 "behind the head" squats with PVC
-"Shoulder Pain-Balls" - LAX ball work on the traps and front deltoids

Work:
-3 rounds of 3 single arm upside-down KB presses (8kg)
-Split jerk 1-1-1-1-1 (53-63-68-68-73-73) (PR)

WOD:
4 rounds of: 3 mins on the clock to do:
-45 double unders
-30 shoulders-to-overhead @45#
-As many sit ups as possible
-1 minute rest at the end of each round, score is number of sit ups completed (so the goal was to get through the DUs and presses as fast as possible to get as many sit ups as possible).
I am having calf pain so I asked to sub row for DUs, but beyond that, scaling options really were not discussed again. I was told to row for 20 calories, but after the first round, only got through the row and 20 push presses (scaled to 38#), so I decided to scale back to row for 10 calories, and 20 push presses instead of 30. Final score was: 0-20-15-11. I liked the idea of this WOD, but overall, wished again that I had had the opportunity to better consider my scaling options (or been given some guidance on this). Not that i need a ton of hand-holding, but it does make me appreciate the depth of thought the SBK coaches put into scaling for weaklings like me--it's nice to be taken seriously and not feel like I'm just taking stabs in the dark.

We have not had a rest day WOD for a while, so I made up my own:

Try to figure out whether Fox was hallucinating when he insisted there was an 80's TV show about ninjas starring Lee Van Cleef.

He was not. Also starring Demi Moore (!)

storm chasers? wow!!! that sounds amazing. I'm totally going to watch that show with my family and friends, and probably my whole neighborhood which just can't stop buzzing about it. I wouldn't want to be the ONLY person in the country not tuned in this sunday at 10pm!

Yosh-- kind of seems like a missed opportunity to have named you FGB team the Jacinto Storm Chasers, no?

Got to squat with Dan and Felipe which was awesome and fun. Thanks for sharing the bar with guys.

Squat: 225x5, 235x5, 240x5x3
My warmups felt heavy so I decided to do ascending sets again and since Felipe was doing 240, I stayed there. Seriously, I choose a weight based on bar loading over just about all other variables. I'm lazy like that.... Anyway, the squat got better as it went and all in all the form felt pretty good. Most had a nice bounce. The ones that didn't were slow and a somewhat difficult.

Bench: 180x5x3
Felt fine but arms were shaky at the top. Not sure what that means.

That was it. I tried to do some chins, but my bum arm didn't like it. I was going to Prowl, but it was raining. I left it at that and will kill the Prowler Sunday.

Fridays are the best. Everybody is lifting heavy-- good times!
